What we want
Our main goal is the worldwide abolition of the death penalty, because we are convinced that the death penalty is inhuman and against the human dignity. For ALIVE e. V. the death penalty itself is a violation of human rights and this for absolute EACH and EVERY case (regardless of guilt or the crime committed).
"Voices From Inside"
Prisoners on death row are living in extreme isolation. Generally, inmates exist 23 hours a day all alone in their cell. Cells on death row are mostly isolation cells, designed for housing prisoners for disciplinary reason only for a short period of time, not for permanent housing.
Contact to the outside world breaks this isolation and is very important to keep or develop a social life (and maintain sanity).
Therefore pen friends are immensely important for the prisoners.
Our Campaign Work
In cases of blatant injustice - where the death sentence is not justified based on the involvement or the criminal responsibility according to international or even US law and also in cases of possible innocence - ALIVE offers special support in form of a campaign.
ALIVE Projects and Events
Working against the death penalty is exhausting legwork day by day. Countless letters have to be answered, flyers have to be made or be updated, we write petitions, obtain signatures and send them out... and so on... and on... and on...
